- Under the ‘No Fault Insurance’ regime in Quebec, any injury resulting from an accident, involving a vehicle for which a permit has been issued in Quebec, is covered by the SAAQ regardless of the responsibility of each person. This law applies whether the event involves two strangers carpooling to work or two family members traveling for leisure.
- When it comes to material damage, the car owner and the driver (if different) are responsible for any damage caused by the vehicle. The Automobile Insurance Act (s. 84) requires all car owners driving in Quebec to carry an auto insurance that guarantees a compensation for material damages caused by the automobile and that is subject to certain minimum requirements under the law.
